Title:Autonomous Mission Planning for Collaborative Maritime Operations Using Multiple Marine Robotic Vehicles
Bio:Jinwhan Kim received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Seoul National University, and his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University. He has previously worked with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) and subsequently with the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI) as a researcher. He is currently a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST. His research interests include mobile robotics and vehicle intelligence.
Abstract:Autonomous systems consisting of multiple marine vehicles have the potential to perform long-term, high-level tasks reliably and efficiently through cooperation. To successfully carry out such tasks under various uncertainties in dynamic marine environments, it is essential for the system to be capable of making high-level decisions such as task assignment and scheduling, in addition to vehicle intelligence associated with autonomous perception and control. This talk introduces our research projects and activities on autonomous mission planning for challenging maritime operations using a heterogeneous fleet of marine robotics, including aerial, surface, and underwater vehicles.
